The absurd and depressingly protracted argument as to whether Mac or Windows is the better OS for desktop systems really gets up my nose. Rather in the manner of a zit faced Volvo nerd bleating about the Ford Fiesta squashing qualities of his asthmatic bolide, the moronic club golfer and his superior yardage with his new Big Bertha or, more regularly and recently, the asinine drivel of the drunk British football fan pumping In–ger–lund over Johnny Foreigner, it’s all completely irrelevant.
Horses for courses, is what I say. If you prefer the look, feel, performance of one: great! If you are drawn to the other; marvelous, but for the love of Doris, or Bob if you are that way inclined, shut up about it. Your experience is singular, and so is your taste. It is of no interest to me or, I would imagine, others.
I have never understood why people find it necessary to trumpet the, usually imagined, benefits of their choice over the next persons. What is wrong with their self-esteem that they must be seen to be right? After all, if you are right, then they, by definition, are wrong. Why would you be interested in proving something to someone so patently inferior that they have made the wrong choice in the first place? Because you are a moron.
Is it my imagination or do I see this purely arid rant more in Mac magazines than PC magazines? Another thing, why do these same Mac magazines evangelize Apple product, print these rants and then advertise PCs and, in one case, change the name of their annual exhibition, dropping Apple from the title? Yes, I know it’s market driven though I would have thought Felix Dennis rich enough.
I use a Mac and I like it but sometimes it drives me crazy. It freezes, it hangs, it crashes. It even crackles and pops. The ‘service’ I have received from Apple, both HQ and authorized resellers is, and has been, laughable. I cannot imagine any other industry save perhaps the car industry, particularly the larger dealers, where levels of service could be so appalling without a major outcry and the subsequent demise of said industry. I have friends who say exactly the same thing about Microsoft/ Wintel kit. Nothing to boast about there then.
